Find TEFL Jobs Abroad | How to get that first TEFL job

Find TEFL Jobs Abroad And Start Teaching English

Having made it through your TEFL course, you’ll now be keen to get your first TEFL job. You may actually find this easier than doing the TEFL course, as English Teachers are in demand and filling TEFL jobs abroad in many foreign countries, so you shouldn’t have to look too hard to find many interesting TEFL job opportunities.

TEFL Research Online

Unless you’re very adventurous, or have enough money to keep yourself for a couple of months in a foreign country, it’s probably best to try and organize TEFL jobs abroad through the internet before you head off to some far distant land.

In some cases, countries won’t allow you to simply enter hoping to find TEFL job opportunities as they require a government issued work visa, which you won’t get without a valid job offer from an employer. This sort of thing you can check out on the internet beforehand, in comfort, and avoid any awkward situations later.

TEFL Job Hunting in-country

However, in some countires it is normal to just show up with a list of potential employers and then ask around about local TEFL job opportunities. It’s not as easy as it sounds though, especially if you’re a rookie and have never had a TEFL job abroad before. While there are some advantages to being ‘on the ground’, it can take a lot of footwork and bus hopping to get round all the potential employers in a city.

If this is your plan though, then you should at least investigate when the ‘hiring season’ is for English Teachers in a particular country before you make travel plans. This is especially true for the better public and private bilingual schools or universities, as once they’ve hired their English Teachers for the semester/term or academic year they probably won’t be interested in you even if you are there in person, unless of course one of their teachers leaves suddenly without warning.
