TEFL Certification Course | Basic 50-hour TEFL training Online

The University of Arizona TEFL certification course is aimed at people who are considering TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) in the short term. The course is designed to introduce trainees to the basic and fundamental elements of English language acquisition theory, teaching methodologies and how these are applied in a practical way within the classroom.

The TEFL online course blends aspects of working in groups, discussions, practical application activities using chat facilities along with streaming video of genuine TEFL teaching situations.

As well as the basic TEFL certification course there is also the option of participating in a 20-hour teaching practicum based on observation and guided teaching opportunities at the Center for English as a Second Language. TEFL certification course eligibility requirements

If you are interested in participating in this TEFL training online you should:

  • Hold an Associate of Arts Degree, a comparable international qualification or have two years of completed coursework at college-level

  • Be able to demonstrate competency in spoken and written English. For non-native English speakers a level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which equates to a TOEFL iBT score = 79 or paper-based TOEFL score = 550 or IELTS band score = 6.5 or alternatively, applicants will be interviewed by the course coordinator

  • Applicants should be willing and able to collaborate on tasks

  • Have access to reliable high-speed internet service

Trainee TEFL instructors will learn the basic ideas, concepts and theories related to teaching English as a foreign language including the theory and methodology of English language teaching, grammar, linguistics of the English language, development of leading-edge TEFL curriculums and teaching materials, and become familiar with both informal and formal evaluation techniques for TEFL.
